Kingscare - Care in the Community for all

Thank you for showing an interest in my blog! I have always felt it important to care for others and Kingscare League of Friends does exactly that. Kingscare League of Friends works to provide, through voluntary help, to improve the quality of life of those in need within their local community of Kingsteignton. They have always done all they can to help those in need however they desperately need more support to continue to grow and find more ways to help those people in need. These people include those with Alzheimer’s and dementia along with those who just need help. KingsCare began life in 1997 when a small group of volunteer drivers were recruited to bring patients into the surgery for appointments. By 2003 it had grown to the extent that it was granted charitable status. In 2012they were granted the Queen’s award for voluntary service in recognition of their work in the community. Kingscare is one of these charities that is easy to miss because you don’t necessarily see it all the time in the same way you do with the RSPCA or RNLI but you would notice if it wasn’t there.

Why Should I Care?

  • It is quite simple one day you or one of your friends or family might need Kingscare’s help and if it doesn’t have the support it needs to continue it will be there for you when you need it most. Therefore by supporting it now you are ensuring they will be there when you need them most.
  • With a growing elderly population society needs to find ways to support them and help them maintain a good quality of life Kingscare is one of those ways.
Rose’s Story

Rose and Bill were happily married for over 50 years and inseparable, they were 2 peas in a pod, and when Bill died Rose was lost without him. She stayed at home and became very isolated and lonely she had no family in the UK they had all moved to Canada. When she went on a check up to at the surgery, the nurse recognised her isolation and introduced her to Maggie the Kingscare Co-ordinator. Maggie convinced her to come on a minibus outing with them to Castle Drogo. Then she began attending tea and chat sessions. Rose made many new friends in particular Mary, Mary had been through much the same as Rose and they helped each other to deal with the loss of their loved ones. Rose is now a Kingscare regular and is living life to the full. Later this year she and Mary are going to Canada to visit her relatives.

Thanks to Kingscare Rose’s life is now back on track and with your help Kingscare could help many more people too.
