Kingscare - Care in the Community for all

Thank you for showing an interest in my blog! I have always felt it important to care for others and Kingscare League of Friends does exactly that. Kingscare League of Friends works to provide, through voluntary help, to improve the quality of life of those in need within their local community of Kingsteignton. They have always done all they can to help those in need however they desperately need more support to continue to grow and find more ways to help those people in need. These people include those with Alzheimer’s and dementia along with those who just need help. KingsCare began life in 1997 when a small group of volunteer drivers were recruited to bring patients into the surgery for appointments. By 2003 it had grown to the extent that it was granted charitable status. In 2012they were granted the Queen’s award for voluntary service in recognition of their work in the community. Kingscare is one of these charities that is easy to miss because you don’t necessarily see it all the time in the same way you do with the RSPCA or RNLI but you would notice if it wasn’t there.

For more information visit: http://www.kingscare.co.uk/

Why Should I Care?

  • It is quite simple one day you or one of your friends or family might need Kingscare’s help and if it doesn’t have the support it needs to continue it will be there for you when you need it most. Therefore by supporting it now you are ensuring they will be there when you need them most.
  • With a growing elderly population society needs to find ways to support them and help them maintain a good quality of life Kingscare is one of those ways.
Rose’s Story

Rose and Bill were happily married for over 50 years and inseparable, they were 2 peas in a pod, and when Bill died Rose was lost without him. She stayed at home and became very isolated and lonely she had no family in the UK they had all moved to Canada. When she went on a check up to at the surgery, the nurse recognised her isolation and introduced her to Maggie the Kingscare Co-ordinator. Maggie convinced her to come on a minibus outing with them to Castle Drogo. Then she began attending tea and chat sessions. Rose made many new friends in particular Mary, Mary had been through much the same as Rose and they helped each other to deal with the loss of their loved ones. Rose is now a Kingscare regular and is living life to the full. Later this year she and Mary are going to Canada to visit her relatives.

Thanks to Kingscare Rose’s life is now back on track and with your help Kingscare could help many more people too.

Children with Cancer - Can we cure it?

Hello my name is Liberty and I’d like to start by saying thank you for taking the time to read my blog. The topic I have a chosen is children with cancer, I’m trying to raise awareness to you about the charity- Children with cancer and what they do for children, how it affects the children and their families and why this illness is such a danger!

I think you should support my advocacy because Cancer is a life threatening illness and with everyone’s help one day we might be able to cure it! I believe children with cancer are a very helpful charity; they’ve supported families and children to help cope with cancer and raise money for each individual who is suffering! Children with cancer hold many fundraising events to do this! Around 3,600 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year in just the UK!

Daisy was only 2 years old when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Here is her story… It started off in nursery where she was falling a lot however nobody thought much of it as she was only young. Every night for hours Daisy would be sick so her parents took her to the GP. She was constantly going so a week later Daisy’s paediatrician gave her a CT scan; they found a large brain tumour! A few days later she underwent a major operation to remove it. Unfortunately it got worse; the surgeons weren’t able to remove the entire tumour because it was entwined with the nerves controlling her heart rate. They tried and her heart rate dropped dangerously low, twice. An MRI scan also showed that there was another tumour near the pituitary gland. Surgical removal of this would have caused too much damage to other brain structures, so they decided to treat with chemo- or radio- therapy. The fact that Daisy was only 2 years old at diagnosis unfortunately reduced her chances of survival. She woke up with a very bad squint and a face that was paralysed down one side. Her balance was so bad she couldn’t even sit up and she was sick constantly. Cancer is devastating in so many ways. It took her 12 weeks to recover enough for chemotherapy. She also then got meningitis. The parents say: “It was the worst time of our lives and absolutely terrifying.”

With more and more help Children with Cancer will try to save so many more lives and help the families cope better. If you gave a donation even a small amount the money will go towards the nurses giving even more attention to these ill children!

Thankyou again for reading my blog! I would now like to ask you a few questions, if you could answer them relating to my blog then I’d be very thankful and it would help me greatly! There are more details and information on the following website http://www.childrenwithcancer.org.uk/ ! If you helped out, you never know, you could help a poor, ill child!

Every Breath You Take - Help the British Lung foundation keep people breathing!

Hey Guys thank you for taking an interest in my blog. My names Eleasha and I am writing about the British Lung Foundation. After reading my blog I aim for you to know enough about my charity and donate and also change your opinions on the charity.
I would like to:

  • Raise Awareness, help you understand what Lung Cancer really is and what it can do.
  • Change Opinions; change your perspective of the British Lung Foundation so people can get the treatment they need.
  • Encourage donation; Raise the chances of you donating to the British Lung Foundation.
Approximately 8 years ago my Granddad was diagnosed with Lung Cancer; unfortunately he was unaware of his illness till a very late stage. After being extremely ill for numerous months he finally became well enough to move around again. After being inside for months on end he decided to treat himself to a holiday in Portugal where he unfortunately lost the battle to Lung Cancer. It was a struggle for the whole family but the British Lung Foundation was so helpful and supportive. In 2011 my auntie (the daughter of my granddad) ran the London marathon aiming to raise £2000 but raising over £4470.65. Here is a photo of her and a friend in the t-shirts donated by the British Lung Foundation for fundraising.

Why should you care?

Many innocent lives are ruined due to Lung cancer and I don’t think that the British Lung Foundation is recognized enough for the huge amounts of effort they go to and try and be supportive and give as much help as they can. Most people have heard about the charity but I feel people really don’t understand what they do or think they have enough time to find out properly what they do. This is a horrible thought to have in your head but imagine if you were diagnosed it’s a very unpleasant though and that’s why you should care they feel that way.

Thank you so much for reading my blog. Please feel free and do post a reply in the comments below i would be hugely grateful. If you enjoyed reading my blog amd would like to find out more visit: http://www.blf.org.uk/Home. If possible please answer the question below so I can have your feedback.

  • Had you heard of The British Lung Foundation before reading my blog?
  • Having now heard more about The British Lung Foundation would you consider making a donation?
  • Do you now understand more about The British Lung Foundation?
Again thank you so much for reading, if you do post a comment below leave your country and hometown so I know where you’re reading from.

Many thanks,
Eleasha.

STOP: We need to do more to Save the Children

Hello, my name is Charlotte and thank you firstly for stopping and taking an interest in my blog. For my chosen theme I have chosen the charity Save the Children. Save the Children help children all over the world with child poverty, hunger, children’s rights, education, health and protection. Many of these things we take for granted. I want people to have a better understanding of the charity, for them to know how simple things, like these, affect children with everyday life and how it determines their future for them. I also want people to see how much of a struggle staying alive is for these children.
My advocacy consists of three main aims:

  • I hope to raise awareness of the charity Save the Children and how they help people near you and all over the world.
  • I  hope at the end of  reading my blog you will know more about the charity and be aware of how  to support Save the Children and act on your knowledge ,such as; tell people you know about the charity or consider donating money yourself to help them aid their work.
  • I hope you will also change your attitude towards the charity so that you are more accepting and aware of how their work may affect you someday.
I think you should support my advocacy because:
  • Every year there are 80 million children who aren’t attending school due to home circumstances and poverty.
  • Every day ,70,000 children die from hunger , HIV/AIDs and health problems

Here is a short real life story about Azul and how he struggles with everyday life.
Meet 5 year old Azul. He lives in one room with his two brothers and two sisters. His   Dad died from polio and his Mother died from hunger. His room is cold, cramped and crawling with different insects and bugs. He has malnutrition and eats only what his brother and sister can find for him. Usually this means a few bits of a plant, or that his siblings have to go without food. He is dangerously ill but cannot afford food or treatment. Save the Children help these children by using money people donate to improve their circumstances.  They can provide children with books for school and clothes to wear and basic every day needs like water and food. They give them safety.

These children endure every day scared and suffering with no food or water, not even a warm bed to sleep in.

Donating just £10 can help buy one of the following:

  • Nutritional food to prevent malnutrition for one day for a family of 3
  • 5 mosquito nets to prevent malaria
  • one packet of chlorine tablets to prevent cholera (by putting them in dirty water to clean it.
  • a set of new clothes for one person
Thank you so much again for reading my Blog. Please could you help me further and post a response of your thoughts (including the questions below) towards my blog, it would really help!
  • Had you heard about the problems that the children who Save the Children help endure, before reading my blog?
  • Do you now feel that you are more informed about this issue?
  • Did you know what this charity did before you kindly read my blog?
  • Would you now be prepared to do any of the following (in the next paragraph) to help improve the lives of children like Azul.
You can investigate further into this topic at www.savethechildren.org.uk/ or help them now by:
  1. Make a donation to ‘Save the Children’.
  2. Start or join a Fund Raising campaign.
  3. Get involved by joining one of their many fundraising activities such as a run or walk or Tackle triathlons endurance challenges and overseas adventures or put yourself in the children’s shoes and try and live on just £1 a day for 5 days (including all food and drink) and see how you like it.
  4. Register to take part on the Live Below the Line website.
  5. Volunteer at a Save the Children shop.
