Help Kidney Research UK defeat Kidney disease - the silent killer

Thank you so much for showing an interest in my blog. My name is Jess. For me, helping children who are suffering from Kidney disease is something that I feel passionate about. There aren’t many people who understand about how serious or common kidney disease is. People just like Stevie (pictured below) have suffered and know what the problems kidney disease can cause.

Here is Stevie’s story. Stevie is 5 years old and he has never eaten chips, never been swimming and he is not allowed to have a bath. This is all because he has Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Stevie’s best chance at a normal life, other than the cure for his condition is a kidney transplant. He had to wait almost three years until he was big enough to receive one in January 2011. However, this failed after just two days because of a blood clot and had to be removed. Stevie is now back on the transplant waiting list with around 6,000 other patients who need a kidney transplant, while members of his family are tested as potential organ donors. Stevie has to live with life-preserving dialysis treatment at home for ten hours each night – attached to a machine via a catheter in his stomach while he sleeps. Kidney Research UK are spending money on finding the cure for Kidney Disease so they can help as many people as possible. As well as trying to find the cure, they spend money on better equipment such as dialysis machines and on the patients themselves so that they can be happy.

Many young children’s lives are being saved by the work that Kidney Research UK do but there are still may that need help and they can help them if they get the right funding.
