Giving prisoners the vote should not be a Privilege

Thank you very much for taking interest in my Blog!  I’m Ellie and I have chosen a controversial topic. Should prisoners have the right to vote it’s something that isn’t heard very often but is something to think about? It’s a hard decision to make especially for people like us as we don’t know whether they shouldn’t because they have broken the law or should because they are still human and have should have rights to.

At the moment Due to recent European court ruling, prisoners or at least some of them should be allowed to vote, but not in the UK. The European Union thinks they should have the right to vote but in the UK the coalition and Prime Minister don’t agree with it.

Why you should care? :
  • We are all human and the same Race so surely they should have the vote.
  • Sometimes they have a very good reason for why they might be in prison such as people who have been brought up in a rough family or people who aren’t well educated and have been brought up with bad role models in their lives.
  • People can change and become a better person so they should have a chance for example John Hisrt was jailed for manslaughter after he Killed his landlady by hitting her with an axe many times and was sent to prison while he was there he later attacked one of the prisoner office so he ended up having a sentence of 25years altogether, He has now learned from his mistakes making him now a good person trying to gain the law for prisoners to be able to vote.
  • They could actually be not guilty they could have been framed for example miscarriage of justice.
  • Everyone should be given at least one chance as it is quite an important right to have.

Thank you very much again for reading my blog. Please do post me your thoughts. In particular It would be great if you could answer some of the questions. Further ideas if you would like to find out a little bit more go to http://www.prisonreformtrust.co.uk
  • Have you heard about this issue or wandered about it before?
  • Do you feel more informed about it?
  • Would you now tell your family and friends about the issue?
  • Have we changed your attitude, opinion, behaviour or policy towards the issue? Is so how and why?
If you post a comment, Please include where you live? (hometown) and country (if not UK).
Many thanks
Ellie
