Give HOPE. And do more to support Guide Dogs for the blind UK. It’s simple.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog! My name is Holly and I feel very strongly about this cause and I hope that you will too!  Not many people are aware of the challenges that come with training a pup, but I think that I can change this. Once you have read my blog, you will know more about the nature of the problem and how it affects people- and you might even want to further your support!

Every hour someone in the UK loses their sight and this means that around 300,000 people are registered blind or partially sighted. Guide Dogs are dedicated to improving the way of life for those who are isolated and vulnerable because of their condition. It costs £50,000 from birth to retirement to train and care for a guide dog, but with your help around 800 partnerships are created each year.

Here is Lance Corporal Craig Lundberg’s story.

Five years ago Lance Corporal Craig Lundberg lost his eyesight fighting for his country in Iraq. Targeted by a rocket-propelled grenade, he was lucky to survive the blast which resulted in an open wound on his arm and the loss of his left eye. Serious damage to his right eye resulted in the detachment of the retina, and damage to the lens and cornea leaving him totally blind and isolated. Craig lost his self esteem and he didn’t feel safe leaving the house alone. But Guide Dogs heard about his incredible story and he was given Hugo, a daft and loveable Labrador so that he could fulfill his potential.

Once he got the boost that he needed, it seemed that this war veteran couldn’t stop representing Great Britain. Having tackled Mount Kilimanjaro, he played football for England whilst always being on the move and never without his trusty guide dog. He was lucky enough to receive tips along the way from fellow players David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and John Terry. Showing strength in the face of adversity paid off for this hero, who was greatly helped by the Guide Dogs Trust.

Thank you so much for being interested in my blog and taking the time to read it. I would be extremely grateful if you could post me a response stating you thoughts related to the questions below. Further details can be found on http://www.guidedogs.org.uk/. Please give hope to those who need it most.

  • Did you know about the problems that the blind face in daily life?
  • Do you now feel that your knowledge on the cause has been expanded?
  • Would you now be inclined to help the cause in any of these ways…?
  1. Make a donation to the Guide Dogs Trust?
  2. Start or join a local or national fundraising group?
  3. Take part in a ‘Go Walkies’ event? (Go Walkies is a sponsored dog walk, where the dogs are the stars. Not every dog can be a guide dog, but they can be a hero for the day by getting sponsors to have a fun walk- only in the UK)
  4. By volunteering to care for a guide dogs puppy?
  5. By using Dogalogue- an online shop that is run by the guide dogs charity?
  6. By telling your family and friends about the cause and ways in which they can help?
  7. By rehoming a retired guide dog?
If you want to post a response, it would be extremely helpful if you could tell me where you are from… hometown and country (If outside of UK)

Thanks again,
Holly
