We should help the Children of Torbay & Help Home-Start Torbay
Thank you very much for showing interest in our Blog! We are working towards retrieving Home-Start Torbay’s core funding back from Torbay Council, and raising awareness of the charity so that more people donate if this cannot be achieved. We have chosen this topic because when Gabby was little she had a Home-Start volunteer who, like all the volunteers, came over once a week, to provide support for her mum. Home-Start help and support families in Torbay and give struggling families volunteers to help with young mums, split families, families concerning drugs, mums with twins or triplets, families with disabilities, or just for general support.
The council have taken away their core funds and, given the current economic climate they are at risk of closing down. This is extremely unfair as Homestart do the council’s work and if they didn’t then a lot more children would be on the ‘At Risk’ list, meaning the council would have to pay those families a considerably large amount of money every week, which, in the long run, is people’s taxes.
So what are we doing about it? To try and make the council rethink, we have organized a petition to show them how many people disagree with their decision. To even be in with a chance, we need as many signatures as we can get, and would be grateful if you would leave your name and any form of contact that you are willing to give.
We would also appreciate any comments you have
1) Had you heard of this issue before?
2) Have we changed your views – please explain.
If you are interested in donating, volunteering or just want to know more, please comment, visit the Home-Start website: www.homestarttorbay.org/ or drop into the office:
