Tricks, Tracks and Transport Tedium

Firstly, I would like to thank you for showing an interest within my blog about public transport. My name is Harriet and as I use a form of public transport daily, I am constantly reminded of the effects the services provide, of which some is negative or accidental. Most people will put up with these problems with the majority of them feeling annoyed, however hardly any will do anything about their problem and few know that there are charities set up to help them, such as Campaign for Better Transport. By the time you have spent to read the following, I would hope that you will have a higher knowledge about the issue and hopefully have an opinion about it.

Have you ever caught a form of public transport, or do so daily? Do you feel like you are paying out multiple sums of money without witnessing where the money goes? Does it annoy you when public transport services are delayed or even cancelled? These are just some of the issues which we as consumers are forced to accept on a day to day basis. Public services are supposed to be the greener way to travel, as carbon emissions and prices of cars are forever rising, however the government refuses to notice the problems resulting in further issues down the line in years to come. Transport should be a luxury, like it was in past history, however the actual fact is it is far from comfortable and the prices we pay don’t reflect the quality. Transport should also be equipped to carry disabled people and available to anyone and everyone.

Pricing forever rising, quantity forever decreasing and quality forever falling it seems as if we have been caught on the wrong end of the stick, however there are people who are fighting this everlasting battle and are constantly challenging the transport companies along with the government. Campaign for better transport is a group of these people, originally formed in 1972 by railway unions and environmental pressure groups, the charity has offer advice and services for hundreds of various protests held all over the country. They have already saved 131 million miles of bus routes and have persuaded the government to have a review of their proposal for railway tickets to rise 24% from 2011-1015. However there is still a lot to be done and that is only possible with the help of people like you, members of the society. George Wallace once said, “Look at all the buses now that want exact change, exact change. I figure if I give them exact change, they should take me exactly where I want to go.” We have a right to use public transport, anyone, everywhere, anytime, we have a voice and we shouldn’t be ignored.

Thank you for sparing your time to read my blog. I would really appreciate it if you would please give me response about how you feel after reading the prior, by answering the subsequent questions. Please could you also tell me your home town or city along with country (If not UK) when responding. If you do feel as if you would like to support the charity or promote the cause more information can be found at http://www.bettertransport.org.uk/ . The need to find alternatives to cars has never been more urgent and you can play your part by supporting Campaign for better Transport.
  1. How often do you use public transport services?
  2. Have you heard about Campaign for better transport before reading this article?
  3. Do you now feel as if you know more about the issue?
  4. Do you now feel as if you are able to tell a friend about the charity?
  5. Would you now be prepared to support the charity, either by donating or raising money, or going along to support an event?
Many thanks, Harriet.

This issue is very topical at the moment, in the future I hope that more will be done to improve the quality of public transport.
