Great Ormond Street - The Hospital with a Heart

Hello and thank you for choosing to read my blog. I’m Hannah and I’m trying to raise awareness for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Hopefully you have already heard a bit about this charity but if not, then I hope you will have learnt a bit more by the end. My main aim of this blog is to get you to support and raise awareness for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) so that they can continue to run and save young children’s lives.

Great Ormond Street Hospital is a children’s hospital which was established in 1852 by Dr Charles West and has been running off public donations since. The reality is any child in the UK could fall seriously ill at any time. This could be yourself, a family member or (if you’re an adult) your own child. The staggering fact is, over 200,000 patients are treated for illnesses like heart failure to brain damage at Great Ormond Street Hospital every year from all over the UK. How would you feel being one of them?

What GOSH does is they provide world class health service and accommodations for families with seriously ill children. Doctors and staff are specially trained with all qualifications. Great Ormond Street Hospital have helped many children just like Lara, who was in a coma and her body shut down. Thankfully, GOSH helped her recover this illness and she owes her life to them. However they cannot do this for every child without the funding for the equipment or their pay.  Most of the hospitals finance depends on the money we raise and donate to them. Without that money certain aspects of life saving, e.g.:

  • Research
  • Equipment
  • Doctors/ staff
  • Available beds/wards
  • Health and safety

would not be there and many would die as a consequence.

How would you feel to be a child in hospital knowing your only chance to survive depended on people’s donations? Does this influence your idea of donating? Visit the Great Ormond Street Hospital website at www.gosh.org to donate or find more information.

Thank you again for reading my blog, if you have any further questions please leave them in the comments. I would like to have some evidence on how successful this blog the questions below.was, so it would be helpful if you could answer

  • Had you heard of Great Ormond Street Hospital before?
  • Do you now feel more informed?
  • Would you now donate/ fundraise for them?
  • Would you now tell a friend or a family member about this cause to raise awareness?
  • How did this article make you feel?

Remember to leave your name and hometown (or country if you do not live in the UK).

Kind regards!
Hannah
