Help Us Find a Cure

Hello, our names are Lucy and Georgia, thank you for taking the time to read our blog. Personally we feel that Alzheimer’s is a serious disease which is overlooked and not given enough attention.  Our aim is to change people’s opinion and try and get them to help Alzheimer’s society to raise money and find a cure.

Alzheimer’s is an irreversible, progressive brain disease which starts to cause nerve cell death and tissue loss throughout the whole of the brain. Over time, this can eventually lead to the brain shrinking dramatically, affecting a lot of areas of the brain including thinking skills and mostly the memory. In some seriously severe cases of Alzheimer’s it can leave people without the ability to even do simple house hold tasks and unable to even remember the closest of their family. The Alzheimer’s society is a pressure group that helps patients and their families to deal with the disease and also raise money to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s.

Here are some shocking facts about the sincerity of Alzheimer’s disease:
  • There are 800,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2021.
  • One in three people over 65 will die with dementia
  • More than 60 per cent of all care home residents, aged over 65, have a form of dementia
  • Dementia will cost the UK over £23 billion in 2012, and this figure will rise to £27 billion per annum by 2018.
  • Another 7.7 million people will develop dementia around the world every year.
These are just a few of the horrifying facts of this life wrecking disease which affects so many millions of people all over the world. There are so many ways you can help. Either by volunteering for The Alzheimer’s Society, fund-raising or simply donating some money to the cause! It really is that easy. Please take the time. Just remember-one day it could happen to you or someone close to you.

Here is the main website for Alzheimer’s Society if you want to find out more. http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/site/scripts/documents.php?categoryID=200123

Before you leave please take the time to comment you name, where you come from and answer some of our questions:
  • Were you aware of Alzheimer’s disease and The Alzheimer’s Society before reading our blog?
  • Do you know feel more informed on the subject?
  • Would you consider donating money, volunteering or fund raising for them?
We would like to thank you again for reading our blog,
Georgia and Lucy.
