Alzheimer’s disease - the stories behind the statistics

I am really pleased you have taken an interest in my blog. My aim is to raise awareness and gain support for Alzheimer's disease and with the help of the general public, that means you, my aims and more will be achieved. Thousands of people and children are affected by Alzheimer's disease and soon it can be anyone of you being diagnosed with the dreaded disease that has no cure, yet.

Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia where people don’t just lose their memory, they forget who they are, but not only that, they forget who they were and who anybody around them is. Can you imagine growing up with a member of your family who doesn’t even know that you are part of them? You may see them every day and they think you are a complete stranger. It can break people’s hearts and their own hearts especially.

Here is Sarah’s story. Sarah’s husband Andrew was only 43 when he was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2006. It explained the gradual change in his behaviour and the reason he'd started to struggle with his job. He now needs full time care - he can’t talk or walk and is fed by a tube. A committed supporter of Alzheimer’s Research UK, Sarah does everything she can to raise money for vital dementia research and shares her story with the media to raise awareness.

With your help people like Andrew and Sarah can get the support they need to make their moments together as happy as they possibly can.

One Alzheimer’s charity is Alzheimer’s Research UK, they are constantly researching cures for dementia and every day they are getting closer and closer, with more donations they will eventually get there and no one will have to face the pain of going through Alzheimer’s  themselves.

Did you know that there are currently 800,000 people with dementia in the UK and amazingly and shockingly out of those 800,000 people over 17,000 are younger people and children. It is hard living through dementia, especially if you are a child and by a simple donation you can help one of those 800,00 people.

Thank you again for reading my blog. I would like it if you posted a response with your thoughts and answer these simple questions. You can get further details on http://www.alzheimersresearchuk.org – remember you can help make dreams a reality!

  • Did you know about Alzheimer’s desease before?
  • Do you now feel more informed of what Alzheimer’s desease is?
  • Would you now be prepared to make a donation, support or fundraise for any Alzheimer’s charity?

If you post a response could you please tell me where you come from e.g home town and country (if not the UK)

Thank you
Emily
