All animals should be Born Free.

Firstly, thank you so much for visiting my blog. After reading my blog please can you answer the questions afterwards and post them in the comment section down below. Thank you if you do!

Hello. My name is Alexia, and my blog is about the charity Born Free. Born Free is a voluntary organisation to keep animals in the wild, and to phase out zoos all together, because very few of them actually help the animals. In lots of European zoos, the animals are depressed, and seem lifeless. They walk, sway, back and forth, as if no hope is left. But there is hope, and  this is where Born Free Comes in. Earlier in the year, I asked one of the Born Free members why they wanted to phase out zoos, if some of them are good at helping. The people from Born Free said to me that to date, there has been no reliable mechanism to asses zoos’ performance, and that they do not believe that the conservation credentials of zoos should just be based of trust. Very few zoos’ seem to focus on the truly endangered animals in the wild. Born Free have conducted many investigations over the years, and in their 2007 report on their born free website-http://www.bornfree.org.uk/- they assessed 13 most well-known zoos in the UK, and only 25% of species kept were actually threatened in the wild. She goes on to say ‘For those zoos that are breeding animals, it is very unlikely that these animals will ever be returned to their natural habitiats.

The email proves that animals should be kept in the wild, but under some sort of surveillance, which is what Born Free does; they monitor each animal that they have encountered to make sure it is alright.

You are probably thinking ‘why does this matter’. Think about all the wild animals that you love. Some of you probably like leopards. There are only 19-26 leopards left in the wild right now. You may like tigers; there are only 300-600 left, with 2 species extinct.

There are many ways that you can help your favourite animals, by adopting an animal, all that needs to be paid as little as £1 a month. Or you could donate. There are many other ways, but these are the main ones.

If you would like to know more information, don’t hesitate to see the born free website
