Help “CoolEarth” rescue the rapidly reducing rainforest!

Hello, my name is Emmaleigh, and before I start I must say, thank you for coming to read my blog! I have chosen to base my work on CoolEarth, a charity that helps to save the rainforest and stop climate change. Deforestation is such a huge problem- over 100 acres of wildlife is destroyed every minute! And, if we keep on chopping trees down, the rainforest could be completely gone in twenty years’ time. So now you’ll probably be thinking “so what?”, or “why does it matter?” well, there are loads of different consequences to this mass destruction.

Firstly, rainforests are one of the main sources of medicine in the world. This means that all sorts of medicines, from basic painkillers to potential cures to cancer, can be found there, yet people are still demolishing thousands of these antidotes.

Secondly, 20% of the world’s oxygen originates from the rainforest, and with no more oxygen, everyone and everything will die. This obviously would take a long time to finally happen, but ultimately, if humans continue as they have been, in maybe a couple hundred years or so, the human race could have all oxygen rationed and perhaps live from stored oxygen tanks! Extreme this could be, nonetheless, it could happen.

Another reason that may be more evident is global warming and climate change. CoolEarth were established to try to conquer this problem, and it is already slowly happening at the moment.  As the planet gets warmer ice caps are melting, animals are dying and becoming more and more endangered until they become extinct. Also, climate change can also mean all sorts of natural disasters, like hurricanes, droughts and earthquakes! Not very fun!

So, the rainforest needs as much help and support as it can get (this is where you come in). With CoolEarth, you can save an acre of rainforest and track it, you can sponsor a tree for as little as £1, or, you can donate money to buy all sorts of things for the rainforest communities.  But hey, not everyone can afford to give money, like me, so just by telling someone about it you can help. For information about CoolEarth, go to www.coolearth.org

Finally, thanks again for reading my blog, please take a minute to answer some questions and tell me where you live (hometown and country):
  1. Before reading my blog did you know a bit about the importance of rainforests or deforestation?
  2. Do you now feel more informed about this issue?
  3. If you could, would you donate or sponsor CoolEarth?
  4. Will you look at CoolEarth’s website?
  5. Did you enjoy reading my blog?
Em :)
