TigerTime was founded by David Shepherd in Spring 2011, for his 80th birthday and so TigerTime is now a campaign of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.
At this current moment in time there are roughly 3,200 Tigers left in the wild. The tiger has lost over 90% of its original range, within a few years the numbers will fall so low ‘they will pass the point of return’ and become extinct.
TigerTime is fighting to stop this; there used to be about 100,000 tigers, but due to consumer demand for Tiger parts poaching is the greatest threat to survival for the Tiger. Tigers are being wrongfully poached for their skins, bones, claws and teeth, of which are highly valued for their use in traditional Asian medicine. Parts from a single Tiger can make as much as $50,000 (approx. £30,000!) so as you can see Tiger parts can make the Poachers a lot of money but that does not make it okay, if this continues and we don’t all stand up and be the voice for the tiger, then future generations may only know the most beautiful of big cats as a zoo animal or a museum exhibition.
Donations for Tigertime go to the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Tiger projects in India, Thailand, and the Russian Far East. Including anti-poaching patrols, undercover investigations, educational programmes and monitioring activities. Tigertime has a growing supporter base with approximately 274,000 supporters, whilst that may sound a lot, that only works out at 85 supporters per tiger left in the wild. Many more supporters are needed to save the tigers that can’t save themselves.
Tigertime has many famous personalities supporting them such as:
- Stephen Fry
- Ricky Gervais
- Joanna Lumley OBE
- Sir Paul McCartney
- Pamela Anderson.

I hope I’ve informed you about Tigertime and the threat Tigers face. We cannot allow this beautiful cat to fade away; as Stephen Fry said “If nature has made anything more beautiful than the Tiger then I do not know what that might be”
