Rising Participation in Disability Sport

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to look at my blog. My name is Sophie, and I am aiming to raise awareness about how Disability Sport changes peoples lives, and why its important. If you notice the importance of Disability Sport, you can donate on the English Federation of Disability Sports website- (http://www.efds.co.uk/)- this is the organisation I am advocating for. However if you do not realise the importance of Disability Sport, are unaware of it, or disagree with it I hope to change your views or opnions, so you think of it in a more postitive light.

Why should you care?

  • To create equality in sport.
  • You, or a family member, could develop a disability and sport can help.
  • All generations deserve the chance to play sport, as shown in the picture below.
  • Discrimination against disabled athletes still happen

20 year old, Tom Munchington has Cerebal Palsy- which has never stopped him from doing anything. However, when he was young he could’nt play sport competitively as there were no available clubs. It wasn’t till he was a student that he had the chance to pursue his career in sport, he took part in a Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership compititon. It went on from there and he has competed at national level, now to old to compete as a junior Tom is training and volunteering for EFDS. Why is this relevant? It shows the need for more athletics clubs for disabled people. The picture above shows a young child having the opportunity to do something that Tom couldn’t to till he was in University- this is thanks to disability sport charitys.

Thank you again for reading my blog if you could answer the following questions below, with your name and country, I would be very grateful.

  1. Do you know more about English Federation of Disabilty Sport?
  2. Have you changed your views and opinions?
  3. Would you know:
  • Donate
  • Volunteer
  • Tell friends or family
  • Sign up for the EFDS newsletter
Thank you very much,
Sophie
