Stop Whaling and Drive Hunts, help the WDC!

Hi everyone!

My name’s Rosie and I want to thank you so much for reading my Blog, it really means a lot.  For my Citizenship Advocacy, I am supporting the WDC, which stands for Whale and Dolphin Conservation.  Whales and Dolphins are in trouble, despite what some might say, and I am trying to spread the word and raise awareness, because they need our help. It is not difficult to do something for the WDC, I’m not asking you to run a marathon! Even if you just donate a pound, you are making a difference. Another good idea is to adopt a whale or dolphin, which is really rewarding for you and for the whale! This is also an ideal gift.
  • Every year 2000 whales die every year because of whaling. It is cruel, and the whale goes through excruciating pain before it dies. No sympathy is given to babies, pregnant mothers, mothers and babies or injured whales.
  • Every year, about 20,000 dolphins die due to Drive Hunts. These hunts are awful, with speedboats driving trapping dolphins in small coves. Tarpaulins are draped across the opening to the cove, and the dolphins are then slaughtered painfully in secret.
  • Denmark whale hunts. It is impossible to describe these awful hunts, but the sea turns red during every one.
  • Whale and Dolphin meat is traded internationally, and believe it or not, is not banned on popular sites such as EBAY! I found it shocking that places like ask.com had people openly asking for dolphin meat!
  • If the dolphins are not killed in the Drive Hunts they are sometimes shipped out to marine parks, where they are forced to do tricks for our “entertainment”.  The journey is not pleasant, and if the dolphins are not dead on arrival, they do not live long in captivity.
To find out more please go to: www.whales.org

Another good website to visit is www.atlanticblue.de. Even though this website is in German, it has all the videos of the Drive Hunts in Taiji.  A brave team has been disguising cameras around the bay to film what is happening. This team are risking their own lives to get the truth out.

The WDC have a brilliant website and there are lots of fun activities to get involved in. To find out how you can do your bit, go to http://uk.whales.org/support-us.

In the comments could you please answer these questions, it would be a real help to me!
  1. Had you heard of the WDC before reading my blog?
  2. Have you ever donated or done something for the WDC?
  3. Would you ever think of donating money or doing a charity event now that you have read my blog?
