K9Focus is a dog rescue organization, based in Torrington, Devon, and operating in most parts of the UK. They rescue abused, abandoned, neglected dogs and dogs in the pound.
You may think it’s just another normal dog rescue charity, but the huge extent they go to, to rescue dogs is what makes them stand out for me, and gives them that one speciality.
It was set up by Lynne and Nick Hall in order to fulfil their passion and hopes of rescuing dogs, and saving them from the pound. Along with their team of dedicated volunteers they operate in the South West UK.
Why should you care?
SOCIAL/MORAL – If we (humans) are treated well, then why can’t it be the same for animals? (E.g. why dog abuse?).
ENVIROMENTAL – If there are dogs left abandoned on the streets, there are several risks e.g. car crashes, which could result in two lives lost. There is also the danger of a dog attacking out of fright.
GEOGRAPHICAL/SCALE – This is one forever growing problem WORLDWIDE, which, if ignored, will result in no control over the issue.
K9 Focus helps fight back this problem, as well as the other hundreds of thousands of dog charities out there. They rescue these dogs and give them the better life they deserve, with a loving family.
K9 Focus is the best dog rescue charity I know; the extent they go to, to rescue dogs is what makes them special, and stand out from the others.
This is my dogs rescue story…
My dog Bonnie had been rescued by K9 Focus all the way from Ireland, from a dog charity there in need of help. She wasn’t alone – she had her brother Benny, who is now rehomed in Teignmouth, UK. They are both White German Shepard’s (American shepherds).
Their owner was prosecuted for dog abuse on them, and the two were stray for a while, but then were sent to the pound. An Irish rescue took them from the pound when their 7 days was up. But…
In Ireland, German Shepherd Dogs are on the dangerous dog list and therefore are not allowed to be
K9Focus stepped in and brought them from the rescue to England. One of their loyal helpers collected them from a motorway service station at 2am.
At that time in 2011 there were no restrictions on moving dogs between Ireland and the UK, although the law has changed and dogs have to have passports.
They shortly were fostered as the kennels are quite stressful for any dog, let alone an already nervous one. So, after initial assessments, they were with Sylvia and Derek, two lovely and experienced fosterers who through time developed their confidence and ability trust once again. They were both rehomed safely within just months of some well needed TLC!
Why should you support K9Focus?
Most of the dogs go into kennels which cost £10.80 per night and when you couple this with vaccinations costing around £48 you can see that it leaves a lot of fund raising to do.
K9Focus need your help, you can support by:
rehomed direct to the public and have to go into rescue.
- Donating money via the website.
- Attending and helping out with fundraising events.
- Rehoming one of their rescued dogs.
- Becoming a fosterer.
Once again, thank you so much for reading my blog. Please spare just a few minutes to leave me a response in the comment section below, answering the following questions:
