We must stop Bears breathing to tune of cruelty

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read my blog. My name is Kyarna; I hope once you have finished reading you will be more aware and/or prepared to support me in my advocacy. For my GCSE Citizenship I am advocating for the freedom of bears that are inhumanly and illegally forced into a life time of physical and mental distress. If possible, my aims are to change your opinions about the way bears are treated and to raise awareness to the people who have little knowledge on bear baiting and bear dancing. WSPA is a pressure group that help rescue and stop animal cruelty around the world. Their work is concentrated in regions where very few, if any, measures exist to protect animals. One aspect of WSPA’s work focus on Bears; Specifically Bear Baiting and Bear dancing.

Bear Baiting is found mainly in rural Pakistan where up to 2,000 spectators gather to watch educated fighting dogs destroy a clawless helpless bear. During bear baiting, the vicious dogs (usually pit bulls) are trained to ferociously attack vulnerable bears that have inhumanly been made feeble to any predator. To do this, people will remove the bear’s claws, teeth and rub Vaseline in their eyes to blur their vision ready for the battle. Once this has been done the bear is harnessed to the ground preventing escape and the dogs are let loose. The original intention was for the bear not to be slaughtered but to be harmed, distressed and prepared as they would be used for a second fight, which would then conclude in its decease.
In addition many bears are enduring a lifetime of physical and mental distress. Once a bear is poached, often as a young cub, it will suffer a piercing straight through its nose or palate. Then a rope is passed and attached through the raw wound. As a result of this, tugging on the painful harness it creates a mean of control throughout the rest of the bear’s life. Years of cruel training allows the owner to make the bear dance for the public and entertain on command.

Why should we care?
• As you probably know the number of animal extinctions has increased rapidly over the years. Soon enough if we don’t take action bears will no longer be there… It may not affect you that much as they are not situated in our country but think of the bears. Think…
• You are caged nearly all of the day…
• You are fed the bare minimum, barely enough to keep you living…
• You are forced to dance in public whilst harnessed to a rope…
• You are vulnerable and attacked…
• You do not have anywhere to run free…
• You are alone…
• You are not loved…
I hope I have raised awareness to those who has little knowledge on Bear Baiting and bear dancing and would be really grateful if you would take the time to answer a few questions:
1. Do you feel more informed about WSPA’s work?
2. Would you support me please to put a stop to bear baiting and bear dancing?
3. Would you tell your family and friends about the work of WSPA?
4. To conclude please would you tell me your home town and Country

Thank you for reading my blog and taking an interest in my advocacy. If you would like further information on WSPA’s work then I would recommend their website: http://www.wspa.org.uk/
