Dying on your doorstep… We should stop homelessness.
Homelessness is a huge issue worldwide, affecting millions of people all over the globe. Hi, my name is Immy and when I was searching for a topic to base my GCSE Citizenship around, I could find no other topic with such a strong response, and with so many pressure groups supporting it. I hope my blog can get a similar amount of support as I feel homelessness is one of the most important things our generation and the generations ahead of us will face due to the constant recession, and lack of money.
I chose specifically a local charity to me called St Petrock’s. You can find out more about St Petrock’s at their website; http://www.stpetrocks.org.uk/ but their basic aims are to tackle multiple disadvantage and social exclusion by improving independence and employability of the homelessness people in Exeter, Devon. They provide food, shelter, education, a doctor, clothes and just a home, a helping hand when you need it.
Even if you are not aware of the Pressure Group I am sure that the general cause of homelessness is something which affects the area in which you live. Homeless people are some of the most resilient people in the world, they have to live in the cold, and survive with the bare minimum, however they are still looked upon, by many, as bad people, ‘rough’ and ‘dirty.’
With the recession more and more people are losing jobs, therefore unable to keep their properties due to the rising debt, this means pressure groups such as St Petrock’s are going to receive a quick rise in numbers, meaning they need more support than ever to make sure every homeless person can be given a second chance.
Thank you for your time reading my blog, I would appreciate any comments left but if possible please could you include the answers to the following questions. Please also tell me which country you live in.
• Have you learned more about homelessness?
• Would you now be more willing to help and support the cause? Would you be happy to make a donation or let your friends and family know about it?
• Had you heard about St Petrock’s before reading my blog and have you learned more about the pressure group?
Remember, becoming homeless is not a choice, but supporting homelessness is, so please make the right decision.
Thank you,
Immy

i think it is very unfair the way people are treated differently, and this problem need to be highlighted, so people become aware of how people have been suffering.
ReplyDeleteFrom your blog i feel i have learned more from your blog. I had heard of st petrocks as we used to collect for them at my primary school. I think it is disgusting how in such a developed country we still have people who are without a home. Anything that can be done to stop this digrace is worth it.
