The Sanctuary for School Horses

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. I am Leah Fynn and I feel that giving retired school horses a chance to live out their lives in lush pastures instead of euthanizing them is very important. A lot of people aren’t aware of what happens to many school horses after retirement or due to an injury. I hope after reading my blog you understand what the sanctuary for school horses does and the issue that prompted the charity to be established.

Roskats story
- In 2005 Roskat (below) was found to have a bony growth (bone spavin) developing inside her lower hock (heel) joint which was a result of osteoarthritis (where the joints degrade). This caused a certain degree of lameness so she could only partake in easy going, light work. This is why the charity took her in as although she’d been receiving treatment since 2005 she often was overcome by the arthritis and the charity can now help her to relax and put minimal stress upon the injury.

Roskat was fortunate that the charity was there to take her in, but so many other injured horses are being unnecessarily slaughtered to make room for the younger, fitter generation of horses. The Sanctuary for School Horses aims to operate nationally instead of just locally. To achieve this they need donations. It costs £1000 pounds to support a pony and £1500 to support a horse every year, but as little as £10 will help towards health care and feed- every penny helps!

Thank you again for taking the time to read my blog. Please leave me a comment and let me know your response. It would really help if you could reply to the questions listed below and anything else you’d like to say. To find out more about the charity visit http://www.sshorses.org/.
  1. Had you ever heard of the charity before?
  2. Were you aware of the issue of unnecessary school horse slaughter?
  3. Do you now feel more informed of the issue?
  4. Would you now be willing to do any of the following to help the sanctuary for school horses to achieve their goals?
  • Donate £10 or more
  • Adopt a horse £20 a year
  • Follow them on Facebook or twitter
  • Tell people you know about the charity and persuade them to support to the charity.
Please let me know your town and country if leaving response and if not in the uk - thanks again for reading my blog.
