We should all recycle and save money!

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my blog! I have chosen to do my advocacy on recycling as I think that recycling is a topic that we should all think a bit more about. I want to try and raise awareness of what you can recycle, how and why we should even bother to do it.
Whilst the most important way to save the world’s resources is to not use as many in the first place, recycling is the next step and if we all did a little bit each day, it could have results that could even make your purse a bit heavier!

It’s a fact that the average household throws away £420 of food waste per year that was in an edible condition, for families with children this is more likely to be higher at about £680! By using the leftovers you could make lovely meals and not have to make as many trips to the supermarket as before.
However, it’s not just food that I’m worried about, it is also other products that we use and then throw away but don’t recycle! These items include paper, cardboard, telephone directories, electrical appliances, batteries and plastic bottles, along with many other things. There is a worrying amount of these products that go into landfill that could have easily been recycled by the owner. In Britain we are actually creating about 62 million tonnes of waste that goes straight to landfill each year! If we continue like this we will run out of the world’s resources, fill up all the landfill and as a huge consequence we will destroy our beautiful world and will not be able to live on it.

The great thing about recycling is that it is not just benefiting the planet, but it is also benefiting you and the generations after you, that is why recycling is so important and why just the smallest difference that you make can help to save the whole planet!

Thank you once more for reading my blog and I would be very grateful if you could look at the questions below, leave a comment about my page or ask me any questions about my advocacy!
Would you......................
• think about and make more of an effort to recycle your household products now that you have read my blog?
• try to compost the food and use leftover food to make new meals?
• look on these websites www.torbay.gov.uk/watchyourwasteline and www.lovefoodhatewaste.com for information and tips on how to recycle.

Do you think.....................
• there should be more advertisement for what you can recycle in Torbay?
• there should be more of an emphasis on recycling overall?
• That there are any ways in which Torbay Council could help you to recycle e.g. could they give out more wheelie bins and compost bins for you?

Thank you very much and I hope you will leave a comment for me at the bottom of the page.

  1. 1) there definetly should be more advertisement in Torbay as i think that many people are still not aware of the changes that they could make to help.
    2)There should be more amphasis
3)They could help people by visiting houses and holding meetings about the issues of recycling.

  2. I have nver really recycled before, but i am trying really hard to now that I am more aware of these facts. I am definately going to try to recycle more and be more aware of what i am throwing away! Even though there is a lot of advertising for recycling, i think ther could be more, because there are not a lot of people doing it.

  5. I think this is very important and that advertisement is a great idea as many people dont know much about recycling or have the wrong immpression or idea.

  6. Yes, after reading your blog I would definitely start recycling, at the moment we do recycle quite a lot of waste, but it sounds like we could do even more- and save money!
As I live in Torquay, the new recycling system has been introduced! I do support the idea of recycling enormously, but the bin system just seems illogical and inconvenient. That is one of the main areas that they really need to improve.

  9. You blog was great, full of information and very helpful to those struggling with recycling.

I would definatally now, recycle more house hold waste, you have opened my eyes a lot. I will have a go at re-using old food waste, and see how it turns out.
I think that councils should definatally do a lot more to raise awareness of recycling. I agree with you points made and would be willing to support you cause
