Greyhounds Racing Into a Better Future!

Thank you for visiting our blog! We are trying to raise awareness for Greyhound Rescue West of England. Dogs are treated often extremely cruelly when they reach retirement and the end of their prime in the racing industry! By supporting us you can help change this, just by getting behind this blog, if we show the small-minded people just how many people do care we may be able to convince them to do so too! We hope that our blog will change your opinion if necessary and we hope that you will feel as strongly for this cause as we do.

Some of you may not be aware that behind the thrill of the greyhound races dark forces are at work. Many of the racers are just in it for the business, not for the love of animals. The dogs are often treated terribly and exist in awful conditions. For example:
• They often suffer from tick-borne diseases as some racers, just in it for the money; don’t buy medical treatments to prevent this from happening.
• After their racing career has ending their ears are often cut off, so they cannot be traced by their special ear tattoo.
• As you can see from the disturbing image the dogs often do not get the required nutrition and are left hungry, dirty and neglected.
• Thousands are just slaughtered. After their career has ended, no longer bringing in the money, they are of no use to them. Also many puppies do not reach the standards required and are killed too. Methods such as drowning, shooting and beating are common. The “lucky” ones are abandoned but with little hope of being taken into care so die eventually too. This is several thousand deaths too many.
But we are trying to change this by supporting the Greyhound rescue West of England through our GCSE coursework advocacy. Through our advocacy we aim to: raise awareness of our cause by showing the devastating facts to as many people as possible, gain support for our advocacy by raising money for the charity and finally changing the minds of those who agree with harsher methods just to win money or provide entertainment. Imagine how you would feel if you were treated cruelly just to win a race.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our blog. We hope you are more aware of the situation and if necessary we have changed your opinion on the subject. This is entirely optional but if you didn’t mind please could you say where you come from (your home town and country) so we are aware where we have advocated successfully. If possible, please could you take the time to leave a comment by answering 3 questions.
1. Do you now feel more informed of the cause and had you heard greyhounds being treated cruelly before?
2. Have we changed your opinion on the subject? If so please explain how.
3. Would you now be willing to support the cause and organisation by donating (through fund raising events etc) or just showing your support through this blog?

For more information visit www.grwe.com

Thank you, Tabitha and Emma

I didn't really know enough about the topic beforehand to make a decision on my views, but now I am definitely against cruelty to greyhounds.

    2. Have we changed your opinion on the subject? If so please explain how. My opinion is always supporting animal rights, but this has furthered my strong viewpoint.

  12. Well done for raising awareness of this hidden issue. I have a recue greyhound and he is the best dog I have ever had. He was 'given' to a company called 'Medivet' after they had half raced him to death, to be a blood donor. He was bled so often that he was near death when rescued. This kind of exploitation should be stopped, and I thank you for your project.
